About BTBT Logo

BT is one of the world's leading providers of communications solutions and services operating in 170 countries. Its principal activities include networked IT services; local, national and international telecommunications services; higher-value broadband and internet products and services and converged fixed/mobile products and services.

BT consists principally of four lines of business: BT Global Services, Openreach, BT Retail and BT Wholesale.

BT's sponsorship of the Capital of Culture 2008 builds upon the strategic partnership BT has with Liverpool City Council and BT's social and economic investment in the region. Merseyside is a key region for BT. It supports over 25,000 jobs in the North West and last year generated £875 million for the area.

In 2001 a partnership between Liverpool City Council and BT was set up - Liverpool Direct Limited.  During the partnership BT has invested over £53m in new technology to improve and modernise Liverpool City Council services and will also invest a further £41m in the future. The recent extension of the Partnership will save the City around £48m, contributing to the City's investment in activities such as the Capital of Culture, the Liverpool Arena and Convention Centre and the 2007 birthday celebrations.

2008 will be a fantastic opportunity for Liverpool to showcase itself to the world. BT's partnership with the Council over the past few years has achieved some tremendous success, and BT sees this is an opportunity to widen its involvement with the people of the North West.
