FAQs
Q1. Where can I find information about using the Capital of Culture logo?
You can find information on how to apply and usage in our Commercial Support section under the Using the Brand option. Select Permission for a list of logos, which you can apply to use, and select the Approval option for information on licences, guidelines and approval. You will also find a link to download a brand application form.
Q2. Who is entitled to apply for permission to use the brand?
No company or organisation can use the brand without approval from the Liverpool Culture Company. There are three different types of organisations that will be able to use the brand. Commercial Sponsors who are companies/organisations who have a commercial relationship with the Liverpool Culture Company will, through individual agreements, have access to use of the brand. Secondly, there are Non-Commercial Organisations/Groups who are funded by the Liverpool Culture Company and Liverpool City Council or collaborate on cultural programming. If such a group wishes to use the 08 brand logo, they will require a specific licence to use the brand. Examples of such organisations are government agencies, public agencies such as churches and schools, cultural partners such as Tate Liverpool and Creative Communities partners. Finally Non-Commercial Organisations/Groups who wish to use the Community brand logo may also apply for a licence. These groups are not funded by the Liverpool Culture Company or Liverpool City Council nor do they collaborate on programming, but will be allowed to use a derivative version of the brand.
Q3. Do I have to pay to use the brand?
If you are applying to use the 08 logo as a Non-Commercial Organisation/Group or the Community logo as a Non-Commercial Organisation/Group, although you require a licence, you will not be required to make any payments.
Q4. Can I use the brand logo anywhere I want?
The use of the brand is granted only if the applicant/licensee follows the Brand Identity Guidelines. These will be mailed with every approved licence to use the brand and each approved organisation will need to review the guidelines to understand how the brand can and should be used. The guidelines include colour palette references and other graphic instructions.
Q5. Once I have approval to use the logo, can I use for all my marketing purposes?
Every specific use of the brand must also be approved, for instance if you wish to use the 08 or Community logo on letterhead you must make a separate application than you would for use on posters. The Brand Use Approval Form is part of the Brand Identity Guidelines that is sent accompanying each brand use licence.
Q6. How long does it take to get approval?
A Brand Use Approval Form, which is available in the Brand Identity Guidelines, should accompany every brand use to be approved and an organisation must allow 10 days for approval.
Q7. I am selling my business. Can I sell use of the licence at the same time?
The licences are non-assignable. This means that approval is for you only. If your business changes you should inform us and may need to reapply for a licence to use the brand.
Q8. How long can I use the logo for?
It is a revocable licence, which the Liverpool Culture Company/Liverpool City Council can withdraw at any time.
Q9. If I have any questions who do I go to?
Please call the Liverpool Culture Company on 0151 233 4399 or e-mail brandapproval@liverpool.08.com.
