Welcome to one of our most loved and celebrated events of the year!Mathew Street Music Festival

This is a fantastic 2 day event celebrating music attracting local people and guests from Europe and further a field  to experience the unique Mathew Street Festival! 

This is the largest free music event in Europe featuring bands from as far as Brazil, USA, Argentina, Canada, France, Italy, Finland, Poland, Turkey and Scotland.

As well as featuring tribute bands for the 60's, Beatles, Divas, Soul, Brit Pop & Rock we will also be showcasing the cities new original talent in the New Mathew Street Fringe Festival across nine venues!

Where is it & what's on?

Spread over two days, the outdoor stages on Sunday for the 2008 Mathew Street Music Festival are

How do I get there?

Please use public transport- there will be enhanced bus and train services on both Sunday and Monday.

Bus Travel
Please see www.merseytravel.gov.uk
Queen Square bus station & Paradise Street will be operating as normal, there will also be additional bus services and trains provided during the festival. Please check with Merseytravel website for more details.

Coach Travel
The National Express coach station is 5mins walk from the city centre

Rail Travel
Connection to all mainline services at Liverpool Lime Street Station.
For local services during the event use the Northern Line to Moorfields or Central Station
For Mathew Street use the city centre Loop Line to James Street or Moorfields Station

Travel by Car
We recommend you use public transport as road closures will be in place within the city centre over the festival weekend meaning access will be restricted.

All City Centre car parks have recognised DDA parking bays.

Are there any road closures?Alexis

Yes!

In order to create a festival site and locate the stages we have had to temporarily close the following roads:

  • The Brikenhead Tunnel will close from 10pm Saturday 23rd August until 6.30am Tuesday 26th August

  • Water Street from Castle Street to the Strand will close from 6.30pm Saturday 23rd until Monday 15th At midnight.

  • Tithebarn Street will close from Cheapside to Hatton Garden 6.30pm Saturday 23rd until Monday 25th at midnight.

  • Byrom Street at its junction with Hunter Street to Old Hay Market will close from 04.00 on Sunday 24th August until midnight on Monday 25th.

  • All other roads within the perimeter of the site will close between 8 am and 9pm on Sunday and Monday.

What will it cost me?

Nothing!!!!  There is no charge for this event, however, please note that pubs and clubs offering their own entertainment may charge.

Can I drink?

YES!

This is a great 2 day event and we want everybody to have a wonderful time, so we request that you drink responsibly and conduct yourself in a manner that is not going to cause offenceor disruption/harm to yourself and others.

Please drink sensibly and do not bring glass into the festival area.

No glass to be used - please use plastic bottles and dispose of them sensibly in the recycling bins provided.

Alcohol can be consumed within the Festival Site between 11.00 -19.00. There are plenty of City centre bars to enjoy within the site.

Please be aware when leaving the festival licensed area of the city and after 19.00 on the event days, alcohol may not be consumed on the designated streets and fines of up to £500 may be payable if these laws are breached.

A challenge 21 policy will be in place, please ensure that if you are lucky enough to look under 21 you have ID available if you wish to purchase or consume alcohol at the festival.

Where can  I Drink?

You can drink across the Festival site, You can locate outside bars at:

  • Tithebarn Street

  • St Johns Gardens

  • Derby Square

  • Manchester Street


Where cant I drink Alcohol?

Anywhere outside the designated Festival perimeter( please see attached map)

What time can I drink outside from, & until?

You are allowed to drink between the hours of: 11.00am and 6.pm at outside areas across the site.

Can I bring my own?

Yes you can, although we ask you NOT to bring glass at all and dispose of any alcohol carefully in the bins provided.

There will be a number of bins provide which will regularly be emptied. Please remember that we will be expecting a lot of visitors and ensuring our City is as clean , litter free  as possible we request that you use the bins provided and PLEASE RECYLCLE.

Pease Please bring sun lotion, and remember to drink water!!! We want you to have the best experience ever at Mathew Street and by just following these practical points you can ensure that you get the best experience enjoying the festival to the max!

If you do experience any difficulty please approach a steward or security guard and they will do all they can to assist you.

The Mathew Street Festival is centred around the City Centre and has access to all sites, however , we understand that it may become very busy and advise you that the most accessible outside venues are :

 Derby Square and the Tunnel Stage

We will also be providing LED screens at the
. Derby Square Stage
. Town Hall Stage 
. Tunnel Stage

There will also be accessible WC's which are positioned throughout the festival site.

There is disabled parking throughout the city centre in each of the parking sites.



There will also be stewards available who are clearly identifiable to provide any assistance or information.

There will be a number of St Johns Ambulance cabins available at various designated areas situated throughout the event site. There will also be ambulances and paramedics on site too, however if you are in an emergency situation please ask the nearest Steward and/or Security guard who will help you.

Remember that the stewards are there to provide information, ensure safety for all and assist in any enquiries as much as they can.

Liverpool is one of the most vibrant and exciting cities in the world attracting millions of visitors each year and it's also one of the Safest!

As in any large, busy centre, crime can sometimes occur so take note of the following to make your visit to Liverpool safer and more enjoyable.

  • Secure your vehicle and don't leave anything on display

  • Even a coat on the back seat or spare change in the ashtray can be a target.

  • If you have a Sat Nav system make sure you take it with you.

  • Remove any visible marks left on windscreen by your Sat Nav holder.

  • Place the holding and wiring in the boot, never leave the system in the glove compartment - this Is the first place thieves will look.

  • Put your belongings in the boot before you arrive at your destination.

  • Keep an eye on your wallet, bag or mobile

  • Avoid texting and talking in crowded areas

  • Be aware of what's going on around you and your surroundings

  • Don't leave your bags unattended and report any suspicious bags or activity immediately to the police or security on site.
