Diversity

Diversity of approach characterizes the creative communities programme, it is crucial in making sure that the promise of 'inclusive community participation' which helped win the bid is now fully delivered.  It's about the recognition and valuing of difference in its broadest sense and about creating a culture that both recognises and respects these differences.

Liverpool Culture Company is working towards becoming truly representative of the title the 'World in One City'. We aim to represent the needs of the diverse communities in this city, our annual cultural programme is committed to insuring that our diverse communities play an integral role in the activities that we deliver, events include; Chinese New Year, Arabic Arts Festival, Africa Oye, Irish festival, Children's Festival, Slavery Remembrance Day, Black History  Month, DaDaFest and Homotopia. The Culture Company has developed a community arts programme, investing nearly £3.5m over the past four years.  Since 2004 the Liverpool Culture Company has supported community groups, arts organisations and individual artists, enabling them to deliver a massive programme of work which has engaged millions of people from all corners of the city.

It was the people of the city that ensured that we on the bid in June 2003, it is very important that we invest in that enthusiasm so that Liverpool is left with a lasting legacy, but this can only be achieved by recognising that this City has a long established history of diversity and for all diverse communities to make an impact in all aspects of the work undertaken by Liverpool Culture Company.

The Liverpool Culture Company will be working towards supporting and enhancing the involvement of all diverse communities to ensure that we deliver the best ever European Capital of Culture and in so doing harnessing the talent and enthusiasm that exists within our very diverse communities.
