Environment
Green issues are high on the agenda of the Liverpool Culture Company, and we are trying to make sure that all our events and projects are as environmentally friendly as possible.
Projects also creatively encourage the concept of 'reduce, reuse, recycle' and caring for the world around us.
Work is undertaken with many partners plus the support of Groundwork North West and the Environment Agency.
Projects include:
Fragrant - The Fragrant project has investigated the fascinating story of the city's Botanical Collection and the people involved in its intriguing history. It has both a glorious and tragic past and international visual artist Jyll Bradley has researched and drawn these fascinating tales together into an illustrated book and exhibition that is now viewing at the Walker (copies of the book also available).
It is hoped that a long term legacy of this 08 project will be the future re-opening of Liverpool's Botanical collection to public view. A small sample of the collection featured in a specially designed "Mr Roscoe's Garden", named after the collection's founder, at a number of the country's' key horticultural shows this year, including Chelsea, to great public interest and acclaim.
Look of the City / A City in Progress - 'A City in Progress' is part of the Look of the City Programme which uses creative writing, visual art and photography to create images and text to be used on hoardings surrounding developments and key buildings creating a dynamic exhibition of a city in progress, its people and its culture.
Theatre in the Park - Initially developed in 2004 in Knowsley through partnership with the Friend's of Stadt Moers Park, Knowsley Arts Service and Spike Theatre.
Its success led to the project being expanded into Liverpool's Otterspool Park through the Liverpool Culture Company's Creative Environment Programme.
Now in its fifth year the project expands to include Halton engaging an even greater number of performers and crew with an adaptation of the classic tale of Alice in Wonderland. The productions are created with a 50-strong team who transform Merseyside's lesser-known parks into giant promenade theatre venues, with puppets, props and picnics. The script and music are devised collaboratively with the cast to produce a unique experience.
Remember: on average every person in the UK throws away his or her own body weight in rubbish every seven weeks!
